Connect Title-02

Following Jesus is not meant to be done alone.

We were meant to serve, grow, and worship together in community with other believers, spurring one another on and lovingly holding each other accountable.

Joining a Connection Group and serving on a Ministry Team are two ways to connect with others at Genesis Church, and we also hope you’ll pursue individual relationships outside of those contexts as well!

Log in HERE to Genesis Network, our online community!

Genesis Network is a web-based platform that we use for group registration, event, registration, online giving, ministry team scheduling, and much more. Once you set up a profile it makes your involvement at Genesis fluid and easy!

Our Connection Groups are one of the best ways for you to connect with others and grow in your relationship with God here at Genesis Church!

Most groups consist of 8 – 12 adults and meet in homes, while a few meet on-campus in Noblesville and Carmel. Some groups also offer childcare, so don’t let parenthood keep you from connecting!

If you are new to Genesis or if you aren’t currently involved in a group, we would love to have you join us. Below is the list of our open groups. You can register by clicking on the group link below.

Meet the Staff title-02

Paul Mumaw

Lead Pastor

I grew up in Springfield, Illinois and after graduating from Bethel University I served with the First Church of God in St. Joseph, Michigan and then at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 2008 I left Southeast to join the Genesis Church staff as  Lead Pastor. I have grown so much in the years since joining this wonderful community. In addition to leading the staff and teaching team, I serve as an elder here at Genesis and as a network leader with an organization called The New Thing Network.

I have a wife and three kids that I love very much. I love traveling with them and I also enjoy coaching my kids’ sports teams. I enjoy running, and I also average about 10 points and 3 assists per game on a church league basketball team. I often get chosen to pray before the games because, well, I’m a pastor.

I’m passionate about watching people come alive in their relationships with Jesus so that they might find their purpose in Him. I truly believe that Genesis Church is making a difference for the Kingdom here in central Indiana and around the world, and it is such a privilege to lead this church.

Steve Wallen

Carmel Campus Pastor

I grew up in Indianapolis, and have lived in and around the area my whole life. I spent more than 20 years in the corporate world, most recently as a  Director of Human Resources, before coming on staff at Genesis in 2011. I serve as the Carmel Campus Pastor in addition to serving as the Executive Pastor. That’s a fancy way of saying that I help oversee the ins and outs of how we do things at Genesis, from a staff level to a logistical level.

I enjoy running, biking, triathlon, and spending time with my wife and two daughters. I like to write, but don’t do it often enough. I also like Twizzlers and Diet Coke. Even together.

As Campus Pastor, I help lead the Carmel staff and provide pastoral care for the Carmel campus, and most Sundays you’ll find me teaching. I love what I get to do at Genesis Church because I love the people of this church and community very much, and I’m passionate about showing Christ’s love to them.

Ben Crouse

Noblesville Campus Pastor

After graduating from Lincoln Christian College in 1999, I served on staff at churches in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, including serving as the Worship Pastor at Genesis Church from 2004 to 2010. After three years as an associate pastor at a church in Michigan, I returned to the staff, this time as the Noblesville Campus Pastor!

As Campus Pastor, I oversee the Noblesville staff, facilities, and pastoral care. When I’m not doing those things I love spending time with my wife Beth and four kids, often with a fishing pole in hand.

We love being a part of the mission of helping people find their way back to God. I love our people, I love our staff, and I’m so thankful to be a part of this team.

Jerry Naville

Carmel Associate Campus Pastor

I am from Floyds Knobs, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University Southeast in 1998 with a degree in business and marketing.  However, while I was in college Jesus caught my attention through a beautiful young lady named Kasie, who invited me to go to church with her,  In November of 2000 I began following Jesus and shortly thereafter felt a call to leave the corporate world to pursue ministry.

I served at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY for 13 years where I worked in a variety of capacities that ranged from volunteer recruitment, to small groups ministry and eventually to Disciple Making Pastor at Southeast’s Jeffersonville, Indiana Campus from 2007 -2017.   I am currently pursuing a masters degree in Bible and Theology at Lincoln Christian University and (Lord willing) I will graduate in December of 2017!

As the Associate Campus Pastor in Carmel I help get new people connected, oversee Connection Groups and serve on the teaching team.   Kasie and I have been married for 16 years and have four amazing kiddos named Jude, Ben, Braune, and Cate.  We are very excited to be a part of the Genesis church family, and can’t wait to see how God is going to use Genesis to reach and shape Hamilton County and beyond!

Kevin Russell

Groups & Disciple-Making Pastor

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, I worked at Southeast Christian Church for seven years before joining the staff here at Genesis in 2013.

As the Groups and Disciple-Making Pastor, I oversee and coordinate Connection Groups and train Connection Group leaders, and I lead disciple-making training. I am passionate about helping people encounter the real Jesus, grow in their prayer life, and live out God’s will for their life.

My wife Paige and I have four wonderful children, and we’re all so excited about being a part of what God is doing here through Genesis Church!

Justin Tunmore

Pastor of Worship and Programming

My wife and I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, home of THE Ohio State Buckeyes where I attended Bible College and worked in a variety of jobs from Collection Agencies, Construction, Engineering, Marketing and Banking, while touring as a musician in the Christian Music Industry.

God used that platform of experiences to help shape me into a Jack of all trades, and eventually clearly lead me into Worship and Pastoral ministry, serving on staff at a church in Columbus for five years, before being called to help launch a campus for a mutli-ethnic church in Miami, Florida. Upon the birth of our second daughter, we relocated back to the midwest, and are thankful God has called us to Genesis church.

It is my desire to see a community of people, using their creative gifting’s to create an environment where everyone can experience the exciting presence of God, and grow alongside other believers in their faith! We are so excited to see this dream come to life at Genesis!

Michael Amatuzzo

Carmel Worship Pastor

I grew up in the little town of Greentown, Indiana, and in 2012, I married my high school sweetheart (Hayley). We now have a beautiful little girl named Katiana, born in April of 2016. Hayley and I began our ministry at Morning Star Church in Kokomo, Indiana as youth leaders, and a couple of years later I was hired as the Worship Arts Director.

In 2017, I joined the staff here at Genesis Church as the Carmel Worship Pastor, leading worship at our services and leading our music and tech teams in our development and preparation.

I am passionate about using the gift of music to help usher people into an experience with their Savior, and even more passionate about helping them learn to worship God as a way of doing life with Him.

Joel Burkhead

Creative Arts Director

I grew up in a small town in Indiana and was blessed to have an incredible family that modeled what loving Jesus looks like. I graduated from Anderson University in 2008, where I started playing music full-time and traveling with the band Alanna Story.

In 2017, I joined the team at Genesis Church as the Creative Arts Director, overseeing all things visual along with producing our weekend services at the Noblesville and Carmel campuses. I’m a “jack-of-all-trades”, so you might see me on the platform leading worship, on a ladder installing a projector, at a computer designing the next series’ artwork, or building the next stage design. I’m a people-person, so I get energized by working with our awesome volunteers and helping them grow in their gifts and in their relationship with Jesus.

My wife, Elise, and I call downtown Noblesville “home”, and we love all that our small town has to offer. You can usually find us at the farmer’s market on Saturday mornings getting some produce and fresh cinnamon rolls!

Jose Torres

Noblesville Student Pastor

I was born and raised in Moline, Illinois–I know what you’re thinking, and yes, that’s the home of John Deere!

I graduated from Judson University with a degree in Youth Ministry & Adolescent Studies. I am passionate about helping to shape the lives of students! I get excited about helping students know and understand that God loves us no matter who we are or what our past looks like.

I love meeting with students in larger groups during our Wednesday and Sunday events, and it especially brings me joy to meet with students outside of those contexts to develop deeper and more meaningful relationships with them.

To keep me healthy and happy I love spending time with my wife and two kids, playing soccer, and pursuing my passion for photography!

Danielle Baum

Carmel Student Coordinator & Campus Administrator

As a pastor’s kid I moved around from Michigan to Ohio, but I have always been a Buckeye fan! After graduating from Anderson University with a degree in Social Work I was thrilled to join the staff at Genesis Church. God has continued to grow me throughout my time here since coming on staff in 2013 as the GenKids Coordinator and now having the honor of focusing on the middle and high school ministry at the Carmel campus. I am passionate about helping every student to know that they are deeply loved by God and that He is a good Father.

I also oversee the Carmel First Impressions Team and office administration for the Carmel campus! In my free time, you can often find me spending time with my friends or playing volleyball. I love getting to know people’s stories and seeing how God has woven in them!

Ryan Hornbaker

Noblesville Campus GenKids Pastor

I grew up in the small, rural town of Dunkirk, Indiana.  I attended Ball State University and graduated with a degree in History in 2009, and later returned for my MBA.  Before joining the Genesis team, I spent 8 years serving in children’s ministry at a church in Muncie, Indiana.  I also spent several years working in higher education and the corporate world as an instructional designer, developing online courses and executive training programs.

As the GenKids Coordinator, I love interacting with kids and their families.  It is truly an honor to help introduce children to the love of Jesus every week, and my heart melts every time I see the children praying or reciting God’s Word. As much as this delights me, I know it delights God so much more!

I enjoy running, tennis, board games, Netflix marathons, video games, and hanging out with my wife, Dorothy.  It is such a blessing to worship and serve our God with the family we have found at Genesis Church.

Beth Sabelhaus

Carmel Campus GenKids Coordinator

I grew up in northern Indiana and spent almost as much time at church as I did at home when I was a kid!  I was blessed to have parents who were very involved in our local church and were examples of what a relationship with Jesus looks like.

I moved to Terre Haute, Indiana and attended Indiana State University. (Go Sycamores!)  I met my husband Frank at a campus ministry at ISU and we lived in the “Wabash Valley” area for 14 years before moving to Carmel in the fall of 2015 with our three awesome kids.

I have had seasons of working for nonprofit youth organizations, seasons of being a stay-at-home parent…and lots of seasons volunteering at church!  I am so grateful and excited to be supporting GenKids volunteers in Carmel.  What a privilege it is to show Jesus’ love to the littlest hearts in our church, as He cares for them infinitely more than we can even imagine!

Jenn Johnson

Noblesville Administrator/Outreach Coordinator
I was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, just outside of Chicago (Go, Cubs, go!), before my family moved to Carmel where I grew up attending Grace Church in Noblesville. I began my personal relationship with Jesus following a short-term missions trip to Cartagena, Colombia when I was 16. I returned to Colombia two more times and have since been serving in Guatemala throughout the last five years.

After graduating from Indiana University in 2015 I was a mental health clinician in an elementary school on the west side of Indianapolis. God then opened doors for me to join the church planting staff at Grace Church. Part of my job was serving as a liaison for NewThing Indiana church planting network, where I got connected to Genesis through our commitment to multiplying the Church. Now I am on staff as the Outreach Coordinator and Campus Administrator for the Noblesville campus.

I’m passionate about helping others engage in serving opportunities where they can learn more about Jesus, themselves, and their calling while loving the people in front of them and bring healing to broken places. I also enjoy reading, writing, attending sporting events, and eating tacos with friends.
